cd cover analysis

Researching and evaluating CD covers

Before you start your design you need to do some research into different cd cover designs.

and
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/5938174/the_rs_500_greatest_albums_of_all_time

and look in Google images to find at least three covers from different genres that you like. For example country, R&B, thrash metal, whatever you like. Copy and paste them onto a word document.

Next to the covers answer the following questions:
1. What is the music genre? Is it obvious from the cover?
ie. Jazz singer playing a saxophone

2. Who is the artist? Are they on the front cover?

3. What is the title? What does this suggest?

4. Now look at the main image(s) and describe:
Setting – background, foreground
How are the band represented? Image, costume, props, expression, pose, body language, gestures etc. If the band isn’t on the front, what is and why do you think?
What ideas and moods are suggested by camera shots/angles, lighting and colour?
5. Who is the target market – typical fan, age, gender, background? How do you know?
